Mission, Vision, and Values

Nature of Work

The Adult and Child Center for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) Fellowship in Primary Care Research is a collaborative training program between the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU-AMC) as well as affiliated institutions Kaiser Permanente of Colorado (KPCO) and Denver Health (DH). The goal of the Fellowship is to train post-doctoral professionals to become primary care research leaders addressing the nation’s primary care health delivery challenges. 

The Fellowship is built upon the extensive mentorship experience of the Director and the mentorship team, a curriculum developed over many years of successfully training primary care researchers, and strong methodological expertise in 5 key proposed areas of emphasis:

  1. Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Science
  2. Economic analysis to assess value-based care
  3. Community-based participatory research (CBPR)
  4. Health equity
  5. Mixed methods/qualitative methods
Trainees will benefit from the breadth of our primary care research settings including practice-based research networks (PBRNs), an academic center (CU-AMC), an integrated delivery system (KPCO), and a nationally renowned safety net system (DH). In these varied settings, trainees will develop innovative research and the skills needed to improve the quality of primary care.

Examples of Work Performed

  • This is a full time, 1.0 FTE fellowship position, for 2 years with up to 3 years possible. Fellows are required to spend 0.75 FTE in research training and development and are able to participate in clinical work for a maximum of 0.25 FTE.
  • Fellowship Training entails: a) course work encompassing either 30 credit-hours of class work leading to Masters in Clinical Sciences (MSCS) or 42 credit hours leading to a Master’s in Public Health (MPH); b) a Certificate in D&I Science as part of either Master’s degree (optional) or three key D&I courses if Certificate not sought; c) weekly research-in-progress seminars; d) mini-courses focusing on additional areas critical to research in primary care settings.
  • Fellows will develop and conduct independent research in targeted priority areas, including a) preparation of a research protocol for a study involving either primary or secondary data collection and b) completion, presentation, and publication of 1-2 research studies.
  • The clinical activity for the fellowship is conducted for this position at: the University of Colorado various family medicine practices. Persons in this position provide direct patient care services within the University of Colorado system. The role includes providing patient care in the outpatient setting and potentially inpatient hospital care.  The role may include intern psychologist supervision and other clinical responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities will include the completion of research tasks and projects determined through negotiation with assigned mentors.
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $54,835.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at time of hire.

  • MD, DO, DDS, DMD, PharmD, or doctorally-trained non-physician (PhD, PsyD or equivalent).
  • Must not have any current or prior funding as a principal investigator at the R01 level or equivalent, or have been previously funded by a T32 fellowship grant.
  • Applicable Colorado license and ability to be credentialed with the UCH system and CU Medicine Managed Care.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Intent to pursue an academic career with a focus on research related to optimizing primary care. 
  • Experience in training and developing clinical learners.

Condition of Employment

  • Per Health Resources and Services Administration, the individual to be trained must be a citizen or a noncitizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment.
  • Trainees who leave the fellowship prior to two years of training may be subject to a payback agreement with Health Resources and Services Administration.
