Position Summary:

The Athletic Academic Coordinator for the Charles Luter Family Academic Success Center will serve multiple sports and its student-athletes. The position is responsible for providing academic support, monitoring eligibility and academic progress. This person shall directly report to the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services

Duties & Responsibilities:

    Maintain accurate degree plans, monitor NCAA Progress Toward Degree requirements (6, 18, 24 and percentage), participate in the certification process for assigned student-athletes, evaluate high school and junior college transcripts, and assist with administrative responsibilitiesProduce reports to be shared with coaches and other athletic administration such as grades, study hall sessions, tutoring, etc.Assist coaches in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes during official and unofficial visitsMaintains compliance with University, conference and NCAA rules to ensure academic and administrative integrityRelate effectively with adult student learners, coaches, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgroundsIdentify at-risk students and make necessary referralsOther duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Working knowledge/experience with NCAA Division I academic eligibility policies and procedures

Knowledge of basic computer software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel

Ability to identify at-risk students and make necessary referrals

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Work a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend hours

Maintain a courteous and professional attitude in stressful situations. Relate effectively with adult student learners, coaches, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Bachelor’s Degree; a strong interest in providing academic and personal support to student-athletes; strong work ethic, excellent communication skills (i.e. presentations, written and oral), and attention to detail

Familiarity with NCAA eligibility requirements

Candidate must be willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends

Working knowledge or ability to learn Banner, DegreeWorks, Teamworks and all Microsoft Office Applications


Preferred Qualification:
Master’s Degree, preferably with a major in Student Affairs, Counseling, Sport Management or other related field and at least one (1) year of experience in a student-athlete support services and/or an NCAA athletic department

The Arkansas State University System is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to serve staggered seven-year terms. The trustees hire the system president, approve the curriculum, annually approve an operating budget, and establish policies for the efficient and effective operation of the institutions.
