Another Source’s client, San Diego State, is recruiting an Executive Director of Career Services (internally this position is titled Executive Director, Career Development and Services) to join their team in San Diego, California. About the role:

The Executive Director of Career Services provides leadership in the areas of (1) career center management, including contributing substantially to student career readiness, student success, student engagement, staff and resource management, campus strategic planning, and partnerships need to ensure effective management of the center; (2) career development: experiential learning management and career readiness strategies, including providing campus leadership, partnerships and contributions to related data and research; and (3) co-administration of the campus WorkAbility IV program, including ensuring compliance with contractual commitments, staff management and partnerships with the Department of Rehabilitation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in behavioral sciences, student personnel, or other appropriate field.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in college / university Career Services office, including supervisory and / or administrative experience at the Assistant / Associate Director or Director level.
  • Possess a thorough and demonstrated understanding of concepts, programs, services and outreach related to managing an effective and responsive centralized university career center.
  • Possess an understanding of career development, student development, career readiness and/or workforce trends, concepts and theories.
  • Experience in the knowledge and use of standard business reporting practices; ability to oversee and manage a range of budgets and fiscal requirements.
  • Experience in managing or co-administering grant-funded or career-focused programs.
  • Experience in human resource management, ideally direct experience in working with collective bargaining units and policy / practice compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in a behavioral science, student services or related field.
  • Knowledge of the California State University’s policies, procedures and operations as they relate to Career Services and areas related to experiential learning, such as internships and service learning.
  • Proven track record of innovative programming and initiatives within a complex, centralized department on a large, diverse, public university campus offering master’s and doctoral degrees.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership development, staff professional development and managing a diverse team.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy:

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward, a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
