Professor (Teaching), all ranks, in Mechanical Engineering

Work Type: Non-Tenure Line (Teaching)
Location: Stanford University
Categories: School of Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University invites applications for a teaching professor, at all levels of seniority, with specialization in topics related to design and manufacturing. The ideal applicant has a strong commitment to teaching, knowledge of pedagogical research, a track record of effective instruction, experience developing new courses, and a national reputation in Mechanical Engineering education, or, for junior applicants, potential for the same. Priority will be given to candidates who specialize in teaching topics related to mechanical design, modern manufacturing, and experimental design evaluation, in course formats that involve projects with physical design and making. Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the department's future in design and making education. The candidate will teach classes, typically two per academic quarter, develop undergraduate curriculum, and provide leadership in the broader Mechanical Engineering educational community. The appointment will be made in the Non-Tenure Line (Teaching) with the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on the candidate's experience. After an initial fixed term and attainment of the rank of Full Professor (Teaching), appointment to a continuing term is typical. A continuing term confers the security of appointment without requiring formal reappointment. Teaching faculty are members of the Department faculty and of the University Academic Council. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vita, a three-page teaching statement, material relevant to evaluating the applicant's teaching abilities, and the names and contact information of at least three references. The Department of Mechanical Engineering values faculty who are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and candidates may optionally include as part of their teaching statement a brief discussion of how their work will further these ideals. Please submit applications at: Stanford Faculty Positions https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/enus/listing/ Candidates will be given full consideration until November 1, 2022, and applications will be considered until the position is filled.
