POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Job Title: Senior Director, Equity

Organization: National Endowment for Financial Education

Reports To: President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Location: Downtown Denver, Colorado – up to 40% remote work is encouraged

Type: Full-time, permanent

SUMMARY:

 

The Senior Director, Equity is a senior leadership role within the organization, reporting directly to the President and CEO. The Senior Director, Equity will attend Executive Leadership Team (ELT) meetings on a monthly basis and partner with teams and individuals across the organization to develop and drive forward NEFE’s key strategies to achieve a nation where everyone has the knowledge confidence and opportunity to live their best financial life. This individual will be responsible for implementing an overarching vision of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for NEFE—both internally and externally, a plan that is currently under development —that works to increase access to effective financial education and drive systemic change while promoting inclusion and anti-racist practices. This position requires an energetic, collaborative and visionary leader.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Refining – rooted in research and best practice – NEFE’s equity lens, and what our vision of success is for applying that to all that we do. Overseeing the development, implementation and reporting on the organizational DEI plan in partnership with organizational stakeholders. Identify trends and develop consistent communication and feedback mechanisms to ensure we are able to discuss and address equity issues impacting our field, our staff and those we serve. Providing technical assistance to organization and field leadership and other identified audience groups regarding cross-cultural communications and collaborations. Ensuring that organizational long-term and short-term goals and outcomes are fully reflective of and inspired by an equity lens and reflect our identity. Collaborating with NEFE staff to develop opportunities, that provide pathways for personal growth and development for staff and other stakeholders on our own journey to a more just and equitable world. Collaborating with the Strategy Impact Measurement Team to develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and analyze and share observations regarding internal and external DEI metrics, and organizational culture. Additional contributions to a collaborative office environment as needed (e.g., team building, strategic planning, etc.)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to engage with diverse staff and leadership to promote trust, collaboration, and partnership between departments and among levels of leadership. Exceptional leadership and communication skills. Exceptional public speaker and comfortable participating on panels and similar presentation-focused settings. Demonstrated track record inspiring and influencing peers to approach all work through an equity lens. Experience with developing and monitoring organizational culture indicators and engaging employees and executive leadership in generating organizational growth. Strong background in change management. Deep content knowledge of the diversity, equity, and inclusive research base and best practices. Strong interpersonal skills; able to quickly establish credibility to develop and manage productive relationships with internal and external individuals and organizations. Strong project management and evaluation expertise; able to manage multiple projects and to move quickly from one to another. Proven track record of successfully working with executive leadership teams and board members. Applied experience in a solution-focused and collaborative environment in all interactions with staff, vendors, and external stakeholders.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING

 

  • Requires a minimum of a BA/BS in social work, psychology, business, education or related field – or equivalent experience. Master’s Degree preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience advocating for and implementing change within a fast-paced, collaborative and data-driven environment. Minimum 3 years’ experience developing and implementing diversity/equity/inclusion programs. Direct service, nonprofit experience preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 

Work is primarily based in the NEFE offices, with periodic travel to conferences, events, meetings, forums, etc.

NEFE allows for up to 40% remote work under normal circumstances. Employees work directly with their supervisor and HR to determine the work schedule best for them that provides sufficient collaboration with other NEFE employees. NEFE consistently monitors the environment to maintain the health and well-being of our staff.

 

Preference for candidates located in the greater Denver metro area or willing to relocate the greater Denver metro area. A relocation assistance package will be provided. NEFE will consider candidates located in Washington D.C. or candidates living elsewhere and willing to regularly travel to the headquarters in Denver, CO approximately once a month.

COMPENSATION

 

The base salary range for this position is between $100,000-$125,000 and commensurate with experience, with an additional annual bonus potential based on successful completion of goals.
