A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) is seeking applications for Clinical Assistant Professor of Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP) at the HealthSource of Ohio Community Health Center in Mt. Orab, Ohio. This position reports to the Chair, Osteopathic Principles and Practice.

General Job Purpose

  1. Must excel in teaching of Osteopathic Principles and Practices in small group and hands-on sessions, as demonstrated by one or more of the following: previous teaching experience, attendance at workshops specializing in OPP, and /or special proficiency certification in respected modalities.
  2. Must be a Board Eligible/Board Certified licensed clinician in good professional standing with the ability to provide quality osteopathic patient care and continuity of osteopathic patient care, where appropriate.
  3. Ability to provide education of osteopathic principles to inter-professional administration and support staff and other professional students at the Community Health Center (CHC).
  4. Preferred ability to preceptor for osteopathic medical students, dental students and other professional students.
  5. Administrative responsibilities as directed by OPP chair.
  6. Integration of all the responsibilities and opportunities of the OPP dept. with the current OPP curriculum for OMS-IIs.
  7. Maintain ATSU-SOMA presence and relationships in professional organizations such as Educational Council on Osteopathic Principles (ECOP), National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO), and the Osteopathic Cranial Academy.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Comply with the responsibilities stated above.
  2. Weekly attendance at OPP skills lab weekly throughout the academic year for the half day of instruction as agreed upon by the CHC, unless otherwise directed by the course director or OPP chair.
  3. Mandatory attendance on designated practical examination days.
  4. Additional academic duties of lecturing or teaching in OPP class, ATSU-SOMA, or in the community as agreed upon with the course director or OPP chair.

Skills/Requirements

  • College plus postgraduate studies.
  • Type: NMS/OMM board certified DO or equivalent.
  • Preferred specific training and current approved certification in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field (OCF) or equivalent.
  • Preferred minimum of 2 years:
    • Clinical practice integrating OMM.
    • OMM teaching experience or equivalent.
    • Clinic practice integrating OPP.
  • Preferred academic experience teaching OPP or equivalent.
  • Hold and maintain current medical licensing in good standing in your state of residence.
  • Hold and maintain appropriate board certifications in good standing.
  • Demonstration of past and current professionalism as set forth by the State Osteopathic licensing board and ATSU standards of conduct.
  • Clinical practice experience; small group facilitation; curriculum development; working as part of a team; willingness to learn and apply new skills.
  • Willingness to learn and utilize distance learning technologies; curriculum development skills; team participation; student evaluation.
