General SummaryThe department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures invite applications for a full-time, nine-month non-continuous position (with the possibility of renewal) for the 2022-2023 academic year. The successful candidate will teach world languages pedagogy (Fall) and Spanish classes (Spring). Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair.
Additional InformationWorld Languages Teacher Education Program
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures houses a nationally recognized World Languages Teacher Education program, certifying K-12 teachers in French, German, or Spanish. The Department teaches seven languages (French, German, Italian, Latin, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish), offering majors in French, German, and Spanish, each with a General or Teacher Education track. Since 2016, we have averaged 134 majors, the majority of which are in Spanish, and roughly half of which are on the Teacher Education track (i.e. an average of 57 TE majors over the last 5 years). Our Teacher Education majors take content courses in language and culture that overlap with the General language majors, required courses in the College of Education, and also three required world language pedagogy courses, taught in English, creating a cohort of pre-service World Languages teachers. Our methodology courses include clinical hours earned at Unity Community Center in Normal, a program that has been a vital part of our Teacher Education program for over a decade and which has earned an ACTFL Global Engagement Award. Additionally, several of our faculty members are involved with ISU's National Center for Urban Education and a number of our courses include civic engagement components, often including work with Chicago Public Schools in the predominantly Latino immigrant neighborhoods of Little Village and Pilsen.
