Scope of Job:
Manage the development, administration, and submission of university corporate and foundation grant activity. Provide direct oversight of the writing and editing of grant proposals.

Description of Duties:
• Provides advanced professional skills in developing and coordinating the submission of grants and contract proposals to foundations and corporations.
• Responsible for managing the grant proposal process, including conducting and evaluating research, preparing and analyzing proposal budgets, and working collaboratively with internal and external personnel to develop grant proposals that support the mission and goals of the university.
• Coordinates resources and personnel in order to develop highly competitive proposals.
• Researches grant opportunities that match university initiatives and strategic goals, and make referrals for departmental consideration.
• Coordinates all pre-award grant related activities with external and internal stakeholders, including proposal adherence to internal institutional and external funder policies, procedures, and other requirements.
• Serves as point of contact for internal inquiries concerning corporate and foundation RFP’s.
• Finalizes approvals of grant submissions with the Directors of Corporate & Foundation Relations.
• Counsels and directs faculty and staff in matters related to preparation and submission of grant proposals.
• Investigates and answers questions from funding agencies, researchers, fiscal officers, research administrators and others.
• Coordinates post-award processes with Advancement Services to ensure proper recording of gifts, and with Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure timely establishment of grant accounts.
• Coordinates preparation and submission of grant reports for private funders with principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and Grants and Contracts Accounting.
• Manages corporate and foundation records in division database, including tracking status of proposals, and generation of reports relating to prospects and proposals.
• Supports the Division of Institutional Advancement with special projects and initiatives as needed based on the division goals and objectives.
• Assists in planning and developing special projects associated with grant submissions.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
None.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
Three (3) years of work experience with a proven track record in grant writing and program development.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in higher education setting.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; ability to work weekends and/or evenings as needed; regular travel is required within the Lower Rio Grande Valley and occasional out of town travel.

Sedentary work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Other:
Demonstrated ability to work successfully in diverse settings; demonstrated grant research skills, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent command of the English language; a willingness to think critically and act independently in those tasks delegated to their care; proficiency in computer applications, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat .

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
