Albright College is seeking applications for an Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life who is responsible for fostering the development of a robust residential program where students develop in a thriving community. This position will report to the Senior Vice President for Student and Campus Life while being responsible for the administration of the housing and residential life program. In addition, this position will report to the Dean of Students for Community Standards violations and procedures. Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to enhancing equity and inclusion within the team and across a culturally diverse campus while celebrating people of all statuses and identities.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Works with the Assistant Director of Residential Life to coordinate student employment for the Residential Life department, including the recruitment, selection, and training of student staff.
  2. Hires, trains, and supervises Residential Life professional staff, including departmental secretary.
  3. Serves as liaison to the Director of Facilities and Grounds manager representing the concerns of the residential students with regard to residence hall facilities. Develops positive relations with custodial and maintenance staff to ensure a clean, safe, and secure residential environment. Works closely with the Director of Facilities and Grounds Manager to develop efficient procedures for the reporting of maintenance requests and billing procedures for damages.
  4. Assists in the identification of renovation and refurbishing needs of the residence halls.
  5. Works with the Residential Life team to arrange for routine hall and room inspections.
  6. Works with campus partners such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, and the Residential Life staff to coordinate first-year and returning student housing processes. Provide procedures for returning students to sign up for housing for the coming year.
  7. Coordinates with Student Accounts and Controller’s Office, appropriate fines, fees, and assessments of Room and Board.
  8. Works with the Assistant Director of Residential Life to coordinate housing assignments for graduate students.
  9. Assists in the development of residence hall associations and other hall-related student groups.
  10. Develops a comprehensive residential education model and programming for all residential students. Supervise and continue development of the first-year experience community, Honor’s housing, and Affinity housing.
  11. Assists in the ongoing development of the Honors program.
  12. Works with the Director of Public Safety to provide ample security for the residence halls.
  13. Identify security needs and report to the Director of Public Safety for assistance.
  14. Assists Dean of Students in the development of the judicial process for conduct violations.
  15. Serves as an administrator for Community Standards through a restorative, yet progressive disciplinary model.
  16. Assists with the monitoring and use of databases for the office of Community Standards, which include the Maxient System.
  17. Assists the Dean of Students with preparing statistical reports for Community Standards related data
  18. Advises professional staff and others regarding disciplinary procedures.
  19. Serves as hearing officer as required by the judicial system.
  20. Provides up-to-date and accurate information concerning housing occupancy.
  21. Works with the Communications Division to develop residence hall brochures for incoming students and for inquiring prospective students.
  22. Assists in the orientation of new students and parents.
  23. Serves on campus committees as appointed.
  24. Is actively engaged in assessing issues of retention and works with campus constituencies to address concerns that have been identified.
  25. Participates in an on-call rotation for after hour’s emergencies.

 

 

Qualifications/Prerequisites:

 

  1. COMMUNICATION Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service required.

SKILLS Solid analytical, decision making and creative problem-solving skills. Ability to think strategically. Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships. Ability to build and foster relationships with students. Excellent organizational skills, time management and sound judgement. Solid computer skills with experience using word, spreadsheet and database software. EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE Three to five years of full-time work experience in residential life or student life and at least one year experience in judicial affairs or community standards. Supervisory experience. EDUCATION Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Organizational Leadership, Counseling, higher education or related field.
