The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Florida A&M and Florida State University College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of robotics. This position is at the assistant professor level, but well-qualified candidates will be considered at a higher rank.

The ME Department currently has about 27 faculty, 100+ graduate students, ~400 undergraduate students, and annual research expenditures exceeding $6.5M. The Department has outstanding research facilities housed within the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP) including low-speed and high-speed (Subsonic through Hypersonic) wind tunnels, jet facilities, advanced flow diagnostics, and high-performance computational resources. Responsibilities

We are interested in candidates whose robotic research is grounded in mechanical engineering in fields including but not limited to: aerial/underwater robotics, advanced controls, dynamics/mechanisms, micro-nano, manipulation/haptics, human-robot interface, and non-vision based sensing and perception. Other areas of robotics will also be considered, particularly if they complement existing program strengths.

We expect that the candidate would join our existing Center for Intelligent Systems, Control, and Robotics (CISCOR, http://www.ciscor.org/), but outstanding opportunities exist for collaboration with a number of additional centers of excellence including: the High Performance Materials Institute (HPMI, http://hpmi.research.fsu.edu/), the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP, http://www.fcaap.com/), and the Aerospace, Mechatronics and Energy Center (AME, http://ame.fsu.edu/).

Qualifications

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in Mechanica Engineering or a closely related discipline, demonstrate the ability to create and sustain an internationally recognized research program in their field of expertise, and have a strong interest in engineering education.
