Job Purpose:

The Center for Climate, Society, and the Environment Climate Resilience Program Coordinator assists the Climate Center’s Director in organizing and running Center programs, particularly those related to climate planning and resilience. Gonzaga’s Climate Center serves Gonzaga University and the broader regional communities by promoting innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, consulting and capacity building on the climate, society, and the environment. www.gonzaga.edu/ClimateCenter.

Function Details:

  • Work with community partners and campus constituents to organize and execute Climate Center programs.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with municipal organizations and other community organizations, particularly with vulnerable populations.
  • Facilitate community meetings with a variety of stakeholders including government officials, non-profits, community members, and businesses
  • Help Director develop and deliver climate planning and resilience workshops, trainings, and programs.
  • Conduct research to determine municipal best practices and to gather information to guide decision making processes for climate action planning.
  • Communicate effectively with on campus and off campus partners.
  • Help develop and maintain Climate Center website to effectively communicate with community partners and campus partners.
  • Advertise Climate Center outreach programming.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings.
  • Have an understanding of greenhouse gas inventories, climate action planning, and greenhouse gas reduction targets.

  • Support the activities of the Climate Center.
  • Assist Director in finding and applying for grants to fund further program developments.
  • Help coordinate and advertise Climate Center Events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of applicable experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of climate change.
  • Strong speaking/presentation skills and experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Facility an ease with information technology.

Desired Qualifications:

  • MA or MS in related field
  • GIS experience
  • Climate action planning experience
  • Community organizing experience
  • Understanding of basic climate policy, economics, and science.
  • Grant writing experience
  • Supervising experience

Physical / Environmental Qualifications :

  • Some sitting and standing for extended periods.
  • Travel to local meetings.
  • Able to lift 25-50 pounds.
  • Wrist and hand movement related to computer work
