Description
The mission of Auxiliary and Support Services is to provide high quality administrative and educational support services to the Georgia State University community and constituents, in support of the University’s mission of teaching, research and public service, positively impacting the quality of campus life through professionalism, excellence and caring.

We are looking for an energetic, self-motivated Skilled Trades Worker to join our team. This position may require the individual to be cross-trained on another position and/or responsibilities in order to provide both back-up for a department as well as to supplement resources needed during certain times of the year.

Specific Job Duties of the Skilled Trades Worker Include:

  • Enters work orders and associated data into tracking system to ensure accurate equipment records.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of tools and parts.
  • Orders parts and communicates with outside vendors as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on kitchen and retail equipment.
  • Installs, repairs, and services motors, pumps, and fans.
  • Repairs broke plumbing fixtures, installs new fixtures, cleans and repairs drains; assists manager with duties such as pipe bending, cutting, testing, and installation.  Solders as needed.
  • Works with manager to complete diagnostics, maintenance, installation, and repairs of HVACR equipment such as coolers, freezers, ice machines, etc.
  • Utilizes gauges, refrigerant, recovery equipment, and vacuum pumps.
  • Performs minor operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of HVACR, and kitchen equipment.
  • Performs minor welding repairs and operates power tools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Technical or vocational degree in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or electrical trade area; or a high school diploma or GED and one year experience in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or electrical trade area.  A valid Georgia driver's license is required.

In addition to the numerous degree programs, Georgia State offers full- and part-time programs and day, evening and weekend classes.

There is also an active student government association which includes the student senate and the judicial board.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
