Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, and taking work lead direction from the HRIS Lead, the Business Analyst works independently to troubleshoot simple to complex enterprise application problems using analytical skills and basic SQL. The incumbent works with customers, Information Technology, and CSU Baseline to ensure system problems are effectively resolved. This position conducts research, analyzes information, responds to information requests, and provides data in support of grievances. This position is also responsible for the testing of enterprise application updates, fixes and new releases and running regular reports for University Personnel (UP) staff. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring all department laptops are regularly updated and serviced. The incumbent is also responsible for checking out laptops for temporary use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate resolution and other critical information to users
  • Participate on system wide teams and committees related to system wide applications
  • Participate in the campus wide Instance Management group to monitor application status and prepare for testing and implementation
  • Participate in weekly departmental enterprise application troubleshooting meetings and work with staff to resolve procedural and data problems
  • Assist with or lead process design sessions and reviews/implementations of new functionality for enterprise applications, including custom modules and system wide changes
  • Train departmental and campus users on application functionality, as needed
  • Collaborate with Information Technology and other campus technical areas to ensure smooth processing and accurate data
  • Design, develop, and implement fully integrated systems including applications, databases and security to support operations and services under UP
  • Collaborate with CSU Baseline teams to design, develop and implement system wide enterprise applications
  • Design and write operational, management, tracking, statistical and standard reports using a wide variety of reporting tools
  • Develop applications that join data from different platforms to produce reports and information to support all UP units
  • Maintain inventory of all department-owned laptops and iPads

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong technical and functional knowledge of the PeopleSoft HCM application, including table structure
  • Strong technical and functional knowledge of the CHRS Recruiting (PageUp) application, including table structure
  • Technical knowledge of Interfolio and Faculty-180
  • Functional knowledge of faculty processes related to Interfolio
  • Strong SQL (Structured Query Language) skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization or information exists
  • Ability to develop techniques for handling a large variety of detailed data and ability to analyze the data
  • Ability to make decisions in situations where guidelines do not exist
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative facilitation skills to gain consensus
  • Ability to use ingenuity and innovation to conceive new approaches and solutions to address complex problems and issues
  • Ability to assess, formulate, and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented policies from a strategic and operational perspective

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or professional training program (or equivalent work experience) specific to the position and directly related work experience, or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing business analyst functions including software/database troubleshooting, user consultation and reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years supporting/troubleshooting PeopleSoft HCM and/or PageUp
  • Knowledge of CSU PeopleSoft and PageUp implementations
  • Ability to write basic SQL statements and develop reports

Compensation

Classification: Confidential Technical Support II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,000/month - $6,418/month
CSU Hiring Range: $4,000/month - $10,549/month
