Job Description

Responsible for covering the post of contractor’s entrance for museum construction during the summer/early fall of 2022. Maintain the safety of contractors, staff, visitors, works of art and the museum building in collaboration with the Security Manager. Provide a positive, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere during interactions with museum contractors while remaining alert and proactive throughout coverage hours. Notify Security Manager or Safety Team members in case of concerns while on site. Support safety of people and art as trained in the case of an emergency.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

This is a casual, non-benefited role working 10 to 15 hours per week almost exclusively on weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 12:45 – 5:30 p.m. This is a temporary position that will begin as of Tuesday, May 31 and will end at a date to be determined as late as October 2022.

Essential Functions

Visitor Safety and Experience 90%:

Staff a safety post checking contractors in and out. Ensuring that safety and security procedures and protocols are followed in a professional, equitable and welcoming manner. Remaining focused and attentive through coverage hours and communicating necessary information to Safety Team and other Contractor Safety staff.

Administrative Duties 10%:

Participate in regular training, including training on evacuation and safety procedures and customer service. Attend required meetings in person or virtually. Complete paperwork and incident reports related to duties.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

High school diploma plus at least 1 year of safety or customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience. Demonstrated desire to work with and support a diverse learning community. Ability to meet the physical requirements of this position.

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a museum or higher education setting is preferred. Associate's degree preferred.

Skills

Excellent judgment and ability to respond quickly, calmly and appropriately in emergency situations; strong customer service and people skills; strong collaboration and team-building skills; strong oral and written communication skills. Computer proficiency and familiarity with Google drive and Windows software. Promptness, reliability, and honesty are required in this position.

Additional Information

To help contractors and others identify staff in the museum, Contractor Door Post staff wear a badge and operate a radio with earbuds.

For the care and safety of our community, Smith College requires that all employees be vaccinated as a condition of employment and as such, the incumbent will be required to be immunized against COVID-19 on or before their first day of employment.
