Myaamia Education Coordinator will work closely with the Director of the Myaamia Center’s Office of Education in development and implementation of curricula and administer the center’s online Educational Portal. The positions start date is on or about July 1, 2022.

The Myaamia Education Coordinator will:

Technology Advancement—Tasks include:

  • Lead and facilitate the development of the Myaamia Center’s Educational Portal. Work directly with computer science graduate assistants to ensure design and ongoing modifications meet the education needs of the community educators and learners.

Educational Development—Tasks include:

  • Implement distance learning programming with a focus on building and maintaining the Miami Tribe’s educational community, and organize the office’s education related communications. Based on the needs of the Miami Tribe, design several audience-tailored distance learning opportunities. Create self-directed and teacher-led curricular materials for distance learning opportunities with assistance from other educational staff. Assist other educational staff in creating and delivering distance learning materials. Build and maintain an educational community for the Miami Tribe through distance learning programming. Organize the office’s education related communications. Facilitate educational collaborations with Myaamia Center and Miami Tribe staff, Miami University teaching faculty, and regional organizations

Additional Responsibilities—Tasks include:

Participate in Tribe and University community cultural activities Participate in Myaamia Center meetings and activities upon request  Travel: This position requires travel (some weekends) to participate in Myaamia community events that occur most often in Oklahoma or Indiana.

Other duties as determined.

Required: Bachelor of Arts in Education with at least three years of teaching experience; strong computer skills required; ability to occasional work on evenings and/or weekends; must have a mid-level command of the Myaamia language (determined by Myaamia language instructors) and be willing to improve language skills based on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency scale; have an understanding of Myaamia culture and education, and be willing to participate in ongoing revitalization activities within the Miami Tribe community and on Miami University campus when appropriate.

Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Consideration may be given to candidates with a Master of Arts in Instructional Design & Technology, conferred by date of appointment; three years of classroom teaching experience in K-8 or 9-12 in Ohio, Indiana, or Oklahoma. Myaamia language and culture teaching experience in community settings; must be team oriented, positive attitude, strong work ethic, open minded and flexible, self-motivated, strong oral and written communication skills, willingness to expand self-learning, promptly responsive; ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, display strong commitment to student learning, communicate effectively and work collaboratively with stakeholders inside and outside of the University.
