The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, invites applications for the full-time staff position of Access Services Assistant II at Knight-Capron Library.

 

Specific Job Duties: 

 

  • Serves as Library supervisor on duty during scheduled shifts, primarily evenings and weekends during academic semesters. Monitors building security and works to ensure safe, comfortable, and equitable conditions for all users.

     

    Oversees the student-worker enterprise for Library Access Services, including allocating, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising Access Services student-workers. 

     

    Closes the Library building on all days scheduled to work until closing time.

     

    Staffs the circulation desk and circulates library material to users in accordance with Library policy.

     

    Uses excellent oral and written communication skills to assist users with directional and information questions in person, and by phone, email, and chat.

     

    Provides reference service as scheduled, and directs users to contact librarians for further assistance as appropriate.

     

    Ensures efficient and exemplary customer service to library users in all aspects of Access Services, including resolving complex transactions, explaining policies, making decisions regarding exceptional circumstances, and reporting issues to the Access Services Librarian and/or other library staff

     

    Negotiates, resolves, and/or reports library user complaints concerning facilities, equipment, or service.  Analyzes and troubleshoots problems with library equipment.

     

    Oversees Course Reserve services, including communication with faculty, development of reserves policies, and dissemination of reserves statistics.

     

    Assists with special projects as assigned to aid the smooth operation of the Library and maintenance of collections.

     

    In cooperation with Access Services and Library staff, creates, maintains, and publicizes Circulation, Reserves, and Interlibrary Loan policies.

     

    Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications/Education:

 

  • The ideal candidate will have excellent English language oral and written skills for effective communication with faculty, students, and all patrons; ability to organize work and function independently, and balance multiple tasks simultaneously; a strong customer service orientation, and demonstrated experience using automated systems in a work setting; demonstrated ability as a supervisor.
