Sr Electrician I

The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems.  The Sr Electrician installs, operates, and maintains electrical systems and equipment for the UT Knoxville Campus.  He also works as necessary to provide assistance to contractors and other crafts.  The Sr Electrician will also train craft assistants as needed. This position provides good customer service to internal and external customers.



Qualifications
Duties to include:

Install, operate and maintain the electrical systems and equipment for the UT Knoxville campus. Position holder will maintain electrical system to all campus properties and work as necessary to provide assistance to contractors and other crafts. As a Sr Electrician, you will be responsible for the continuity of all projects as well as inspect equipment on a regular basis in order to maintain the safety of students, staff, the general public and others who come in contact with these facilities.  This position will provide support for specialist events and assist the foreman and fill in during his/her absence. This position will also mentor other employees and train them as necessary.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Extensive knowledge of the National Electric Code safe work practices and safety guidelines; Ability to interpret drawings and electrical schematics; Ability to develop material ordering take off lists; Ability to interpret and apply fundamentals of the National Electric Code in electrical systems work efforts; Ability to supervise electrical craft in the performance of their duties. Ability to carry out job duties and responsibilities independently.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

Valid Tennessee Driver’s License

High School Education

Applicant should have at least 6 years of equivalent field experience in electrical systems. Education may be substituted for field experience on a year-for-year basis if education is related to electrical systems.

Applicant should have the ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematic drawings.  Also, applicant should have extensive knowledge of safe work practices and regulations.  Applicant needs the ability to supervise electricians and/or craft assistants.  Also, should have the ability to perform moderately strenuous work activities.
