Assistant DirectorThe University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) seeks a collaborative and dynamic leader to provide strategic and managerial support for the business operations of the Programs Abroad Office (PAO). Reporting to the Director of PAO, this position contributes to the development of strategic initiatives and processes which support the Center for Global Engagement and empower UT's Global Vision forward. This is an in-office position based in Knoxville, TN. The city of Knoxville is a hidden gem surrounded by eight gorgeous lakes, with a beautiful and walkable downtown, a diverse music scene including internationally recognized festivals, active neighborhoods, unique restaurants, and a robust offering of diverse cultural and outdoor activities. UTK is located within easy driving distance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Atlanta, Nashville, Asheville, Charlotte, Louisville, and Cincinnati. It is only a day’s drive to Memphis, Chicago, and Washington D.C. Knoxville and the surrounding counties have a population of more than 850,000people. Position Summary: The Assistant Director will provide oversight of the daily business operations within PAO along with supervising professional staff. Responsibilities include: supervision of PAO program management staff, supporting Director in strategic planning and leadership of PAO, comprehensive financial administration and budget management for abroad programs, oversight of programs abroad contracting process, facilitation of new program development sequence, delegation of program portfolio management among staff with respect to equity and frequency, management of a portfolio of faculty-directed programs, maintenance of relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and support to global risk management process. The incumbent will represent the college and university to foreign partners and foster institutional level relationships. Additional responsibilities include the identification of scholarship and grant opportunities to support study abroad programs and students.



Qualifications
Key areas of responsibility:

● Operational oversight and budget management

● Supervision and work direction

● Faculty-Directed abroad program management and administration

● Advising, enrollment management, and student outreach

● Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Minimum Requirements: Education Master’s Degree

Experience

● At least five years of experience working in international education, student services, academic advising, international engagement, global learning, or a related field.

● Five years of progressively responsible experience with time spent in a leadership capacity

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

● Previous supervisory experience

● Project management experience

● Experience with global cross-cultural interactions, which might include living, working, or studying abroad

● Working knowledge of one or more non-English languages

● Experience with academic and study abroad software such as Banner, TerraDotta, etc
