General Statement of Job
The Outreach Specialist acts as an advisor to support, educate and to provide resources, to students who are interested in attending college after high school graduation. This position performs recruiting, advisement and counseling services to students interested in attending a post-secondary institution and working toward a college degree.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Outreach Specialist will:
- Creates relevant lessons, based on age and grade, and presents these lessons via monthly workshops at our target schools. Relevant lessons include, but are not limited to, topics related to setting educational goals, course selection, high school and college graduation requirements, career options, post-secondary terminology, college application process, ACT & SAT testing and preparation, life skills, financial aid application process, money management, study skills and test prep.
- Provides academic advising for students in the selection of rigorous high school courses and potential college courses, which meet the educational goals of the student.
- Recruit, evaluate and admit middle school and high school students that meet the required criteria for the program.
- Review students’ transcripts and assist students with overcoming academic difficulties.
- Recruit, train and supervise tutors and coordinate individual/group tutoring upon student or parent request.
- Plan and make arrangements for travel and college tours as well as supervise students during travel.
- Work collaboratively with counselors, teachers and principals in our target schools to establish educational enhancement opportunities of students in the program.
- Tracks and document student participation using the Blumen student database system. Blumen is our student database that houses all of our 550 students’ information. Workshop/event attendance; dual enrollment; rigorous enrollment; FAFSA completion and academic progress is kept for each individual student as well as their matriculation through college.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education, Experience and Licenses
A Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required. Preferably in education, counseling, administration or related field.
A minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.

- Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
