Join our advocacy and counseling team at CU Boulder! The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) provides advocacy and trauma focused short-term counseling to university students, staff and faculty who are impacted by disruptive and disturbing life events, typically crime and policy violations. The Victim Advocate Counselor, Multicultural Specialist will work on a team to provide free and confidential short-term counseling, advocacy, support and information to members of the university community.
This position will specifically focus on supporting underrepresented students, staff, and, faculty and will collaborate with campus departments to provide support to OVA clients while ensuring that issues of equity and social justice are considered in all advocacy, counseling, and training services. This position will provide training in multiculturalism and the intersection of trauma to OVA staff and will give presentations about our response services, topic areas, and how to support survivors.

The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) works towards a safer, more socially just, and supportive campus community by providing culturally relevant trauma response and prevention services. OVA is in the division of Student Affairs in Health and Wellness Services.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeAdvocacy and Counseling
- Provide confidential entry-point and follow-up services including trauma focused short-term counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, referrals, accompaniment, information on system-wide operations (criminal, administrative, medical, academic, and civil options), victim outreach, on- and off-campus service coordination, decision-making, and support to students, staff, and faculty.
Collaboration, Outreach, and Education
- Collaborate with the OVA team on projects, such as the delivery of trainings and educational materials.
- Provide multicultural outreach, training and consultation on trauma, with a focus on serving the needs of diverse, historically marginalized, and underrepresented populations, including African American/Black, Asian American, Latinx, Native American, LGBTQ+, international, undocumented, and veteran populations.
Administrative
- Participate in weekly case consultation and staff meetings.
- Record client interventions and statistics by completing case notes, release of information forms, and documentation.
- Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work hours include mostly in-person work with the possibility to work a few days per month virtually. At times there may be more remote days related to fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks based on the academic calendar.
- This position is required to carry an on-call cell phone a few days a week for emergency response during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
- All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
- New employees are responsible for providing proof of vaccination or receiving a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
- The salary range for this position is $60,638 - $75,056 annually, dependent on years of being independently clinically licensed.
- Onboarding Assistance is available within Student Affairs division guidelines.
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field.
- Clinically licensed in the State of Colorado (LPC, Psychologist or LCSW) or transferable to the state of CO by date of hire (August 2022).
- Two years of clinical experience providing direct client services.
- Two years of experience providing advocacy and crisis intervention.
- Experience with a trauma-informed approach to clinical and advocacy services, including working with issues related to gender-based violence, such as sexual assault, partner abuse, stalking, experiences of bias, and discrimination.
- Experience and interest in working with people from multicultural backgrounds and marginalized populations.
- Experience providing training and consulting on multiculturalism and the intersection of trauma.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff and a diverse range of constituents.
- Experience working with diverse populations and a proven dedication to social justice and inclusive excellence.
- Knowledge of victims’ rights, Title IX and/or Title VII.
- Organization skills and attention to detail.
- Public speaking experience.
- Experience working in a university or college setting.
- Experience in conducting sessions in another language besides English, such as Spanish, Mandarin, or Arabic.
