Sr. Research Program Coordinator
The Department of Surgery is currently searching for a bright, hard-working, and experienced Senior Research Program Coordinator to support cutting edge clinical trials and surgeon-scientists. The Senior Research Program Coordinator will provide for the daily operation, study visits, sample collection, data entry, and query resolution for multiple clinical research studies and trials; perform a variety of complex duties involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of clinical research data.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with research team on scientific implementation, daily operation, and data management of interventional clinical trials.
  • Screen participants for studies, including complex procedural and interventional studies
  • Conduct study participant visits, including inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.
  • Provide for the acquisition and processing of clinical samples from study participants.
  • Maintain study level documentation for assigned studies.
  • Prepare for study monitoring visits.
  • Prepare documents, annual reports, and amendments required by the FDA and IRB.
  • Under the direction of surgeon principal investigators, determine patient study eligibility, obtain informed consent, and initiate patient randomization and enrollment.
  • Act as a liaison for various studies with sponsors, study monitors, patients and their primary care providers.
  • Participate in staff meetings to report on screening, recruitment, and data collection progress and resolve problems.
  • Work under the direction of the Principal Investigators and Director of Clinical Trials to ensure successful completion of clinical research projects.
  • May be required to travel to satellite locations.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Requires a minimum of three years related research experience, including clinical research coordination experience and/or clinical sample laboratory methods.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


JHU Equivalency Formula: ​​​​​​​ 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum experience required for the respective job.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, detail oriented, self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills, ability to use personal computer; database and spreadsheet knowledge.
  • Highly attentive to detail and deadlines.
  • Ability to work with physicians and scientists on data driven research studies.
  • Familiarity with data security methods and compliance with regulations and institutional policy.
  • Familiarity with human subject research and ethics/regulatory implications of working with this type of data.

Starting Salary Range: $38,920 - $53,520 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
