Position Summary

The College of Education at Michigan State University (education.msu.edu) announces an open position in the Office of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (ORDS) in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education. This position at the assistant or associate professor level are 9-month fixed-term appointments that will begin on August 16, 2022.

Duties:

Graduate teaching in all modes of delivery in both our CACREP-accredited master’s rehabilitation counseling and doctoral rehabilitation counselor education programs

Serving as clinical coordinator for the counseling practicum and internship and providing clinical supervision to master’s and doctoral students

Serving as an advisor to students in the master’s program

Providing supervision of doctoral dissertations

Participation in democratic governance and operation of our programs.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Rehabilitation Counseling

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in rehabilitation counselor education, rehabilitation psychology, or a closely related discipline, or provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start of the appointment. Successful candidates must (1) have a record of teaching graduate courses and providing clinical supervision, (2) eligibility for CRC certification and licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) in Michigan, and (3) at least two years of experience in the field of rehabilitation services working with individuals with disabilities.

Desired Qualifications

(1) possession of teaching, and/or clinical skills and experience with diverse disability populations in the areas of disability and rehabilitation;

(2) ability in promoting diverse, inclusive and culturally responsive teaching, and clinical practices;

(3) providing quality mentoring and supervision at the graduate level.

Department Statement

The mission of the Rehabilitation Counselor Education’s Doctor of Philosophy degree program is to prepare graduates to work as rehabilitation counselor educators, researchers, supervisors, and practitioners in academic and clinical settings. The program is designed to extend the knowledge base of the rehabilitation counseling profession in a climate of scholarly inquiry, and to prepare students to inform professional practice by generating new knowledge for the profession. It also supports faculty and students in publishing and presenting the results of scholarly inquiry, while equipping students to assume positions of leadership in the rehabilitation counseling profession. Our doctoral program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). CACREP accreditation denotes a commitment to program excellence and indicates to the public at large that our program is fulfilling its commitment to educational quality. Students enrolled in the program are expected to abide by the ethical principles of the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and American Counseling Association (ACA).
