The Department of Entomology includes 35 faculty, 70 graduate students, 27 undergraduate entomology majors, and 97 undergraduate applied biotechnology majors, with diverse interests from very applied to fundamental studies. We are a multi-campus environment with an excellent reputation in research, extension, and teaching. The three campuses of the University of Georgia (Athens, Tifton, and Griffin) are multidisciplinary, multi-agency facilities with access to well-equipped research farms throughout the state. Opportunities for collaboration within the UGA Commodity Teams and with colleagues in other departments and institutions are plentiful and encouraged. The UGA Department of Entomology is an internationally recognized department committed to interdisciplinary research, teaching, and extension at local, regional, national, and international levels. Our programs encompass basic and applied research on insects in diverse systems including agricultural/urban, medical/veterinary, aquatic, and other ecosystems.

The Department of Entomology at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for a tenure-track position (9 months) in IPM for controlled environment agriculture at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. We seek candidates with expertise in the area of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and experience and/or interest in sustainable production of greenhouse edible, ornamental, medicinal or aromatic crops.
The position includes research (80%) and extension (20%). The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research and extension program supported by competitive external funding, publish high-impact research, and effectively mentor graduate/undergraduate students. Many production systems are used in commercial greenhouses and related structures. Areas of interest include the development of new pest management strategies for specialty crops in controlled environments and early detection methods for pests. Another area of interest is developing an enhanced understanding of how equipment, plant density, spacing, propagation rooms, water delivery systems, fertilization methods, and other cultural practices affect pest pressure and management approaches. A collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to solving important emerging problems that strengthen and complement the current programs in the department and college is expected. The successful candidate is also expected to be active in departmental and university service, and professional activities and outreach.

For the rank of Assistant Professor, candidates do not need a minimum number of years in a lower rank unless the initial appointment was at the instructor level (https://provost.uga.edu/faculty-affairs/UGA_Guidelines_for_APT_approved_2_2020.pdf). To be considered for the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years in rank at the Assistant Professor level before the start date. Demonstrated training and expertise in integrative approaches are required. Strong track record of grants accomplishments and peer-reviewed publications. Postdoctoral research background and a history in extension are preferred.
