Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior laboratory experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related field.

Position Summary:

This position will serve as an environmental analyst within the Agricultural and Environmental Services Laboratories (AESL). This individual will be highly independent and primarily responsible for the extraction and analysis of mineral constituents of environmental samples using various analytical instruments (i.e. inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy, ion chromatography, UV spectroscopy). This individual will be responsible for maintaining analytical equipment and adhering to established QA/QC protocols to ensure data accuracy and precision.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Skills and working knowledge of general laboratory and analytical chemistry practices. Working independently.
  • Willingness to maintain analytical equipment and troubleshoot issues as they arise during analysis. Providing effective and timely written and oral communication to colleagues and immediate supervisor when issues arise.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, and multitasking to provide rapid and accurate sample turnaround.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Conduct analysis of mineral constituents in environmental samples using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and trace level ICP spectrometers. Use working knowledge of instrument maintenance to conduct repairs when necessary.
