Job DescriptionThe Division of Theatre in the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) Conservatory invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Technical Direction to begin fall semester 2022. This is a 9-month, tenure-track, full-time, benefit-eligible position teaching within the undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Assistant Professor will teach courses in technical direction, as well as basic and advanced entertainment technology to both undergraduate and graduate students; mentor students in technical direction; teach additional courses in areas of interest and specialty as needed; work as a liaison between UMKC Theatre and our producing partners at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. The program offers intensive hands-on experience while at the same time fostering analytical and contextual skills. The practical experience of theatre-making occurs not only within the performing venues of UMKC, but also in professional theatres in Kansas City including our partner, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre.
Tenure-track faculty members engage in teaching, research/creative scholarship, and service. Theatre faculty must develop and maintain external professional accomplishments and relationships. Minimum QualificationsThe ideal candidate has a solid body of professional work as a Technical Director and has experience teaching. A strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate teaching is required. Comprehensive knowledge of scenic materials and construction techniques including welding, rigging; automation; CAD proficiency; safety standards and other standard entertainment technology. Duties include mentoring students in technical direction, teaching basic and advanced courses in entertainment technology to graduates and undergraduates, and working as a liaison between UMKC Theatre and our producing partners including the Kansas City Rep.
Full Time/Part TimeThis is a full time, tenure-track, benefit eligible, nine-month appointment. Date of appointment starts fall semester 2022.
SalarySalary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications, experience and internal equity.
