Job Summary

This position is open only to current fulltime and part-time Central Arizona College employees.

Responsible for all aspects of the Central Arizona College NJCAA Division I athletic program including recruiting and supervision of student-athletes, coordinating, and supervising practices, coordinating and facilitating fundraising activities, overseeing travel, budget and the overall daily operations of the sports program. Serve as Athletic Specialist for Sports and Fitness and/or Athletic Division.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will:

  • Work within the Central Arizona College Athletic Department to develop and maintain a successful athletic program.
  • Monitor and administer the budget for the specific sport including fundraising efforts.
  • Coordinate the recruitment, enrollment and educational effort of the student athletes on the team. Monitor and report student-athlete academic, athletic and social progress.
  • Work cooperatively with campus representatives outside the Sports and Fitness Division and Athletic Department to develop and sustain positive experiences academically and socially for student-athletes.
  • Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director and District Academic Chair of Sports and Fitness to perform other duties as assigned. Duties as assigned include but are not limited to: Pool Specialist, Fitness Center Specialist, Sports Information Specialist, Advising Specialist, College for Kids, and Game Management Specialist.
  • Head coaches are responsible for both theory and varsity courses for their sports. Courses outside these can be used for completion of duties or as separate outside adjunct work if a full load is already committed.
Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year related experience

SALARY: $48,026.00 - $50,908.00 (Dependent upon qualifications)

    The knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this job include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Expert knowledge of sport specific coaching, specifically at the collegiate level.
  • Ability to apply a variety of fundraising techniques and strategies
  • Detailed knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply NJCAA rules and regulations
  • Ability to design, implement, and sustain athlete recruitment initiatives and restrictions
  • Knowledge and skill in managing project and departmental budgets. Ability to estimate materials, equipment, land and labor costs, and develop and maintain budgets.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations regarding area of practice.
  • Skill in counseling students on College policies and procedures
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with staff, community leaders, faculty, students, and the public. Skill working in a diverse multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop solutions, and make independent decisions based on established guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with College staff, faculty, administrators, and outside contractors.
