The Center for Publishing at the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) invites applications for the role of Academic Director for the Center’s MS in Publishing degree and Summer Publishing Institute. The position, which holds a full-time, non-tenure faculty appointment, will begin in August, 2022.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts, the Academic Director will be responsible for the management and development of the academic curriculum for the Master’s in Publishing and the NYU Summer Publishing Institute, including industry outreach, building partnerships and programs, and leading a team of clinical and adjunct faculty and academic and advising staff

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional in publishing, particularly book publishing, with experience managing programs. Candidates who have experience with a diverse population of students are especially encouraged to apply.  Prior teaching experience or evidence of the potential for success in teaching is preferred, but not required.  A master's degree is required. The Center for Publishing, which is now celebrating its 25th anniversary at the NYU School of Professional Studies, is devoted to the mission of preparing students for careers in book publishing and digital/magazine media. The Center is at the forefront of publishing education and recognized globally for its innovative, practice-based curriculum, faculty of industry leaders, and deep industry outreach and involvement in terms of internships, events and international student opportunities. 

Offering two pathways to publishing, the Center provides students with the opportunity to enroll in a 36-credit graduate degree, the MS in Publishing, or a four-week summer intensive, The NYU Summer Publishing Institute, which provides graduate credit. Students are encouraged to apply to both programs, earning graduate credit during their summer studies and matriculating into the Master’s program in the fall. Over the years, thousands of aspiring publishing professionals have commenced careers in publishing and media through their studies at the Center for Publishing.

With a deep commitment to providing a wide range of industry events, conferences, and executive education programs in the US and globally, the Center for Publishing provides accessible publishing education on a global scale. Its renowned NYU Media Talk series explores important topics in publishing and media and is attended by publishing leaders and professionals all over the world.
