The Department of English at the University of South Carolina invites applications for multiple full-time Professional Faculty positions to teach oral communication in its Speech Communication and Rhetoric Program. The teaching load is four classes per semester.Required Education and Experience:
The core curriculum at the University of South Carolina requires all undergraduates to take a course in public speaking. The Speech Communication and Rhetoric Program provides this instruction to thousands of students each year in a variety of courses, including Public Communication (SPCH 140), Communicating Moral Issues (SPCH 213), Business and Professional Speaking (SPCH 230), and Argumentation and Debate (SPCH 260). Throughout these courses we seek to provide excellent, engaging, and effective instruction in the fundamental skills of oral communication. We are expanding our Professional-Track Faculty to contribute to these efforts.
These are 9-month, non-tenure track appointments with a start date of August 16, 2022, renewable based on Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. The opportunity for promotion is available based on years of service and evidence of successful performance.
Candidates must have completed an MA in Speech Communication or a closely related field by August 15, 2022, and have a minimum of two years’ experience teaching speech communication courses at the college level with evidence of effectiveness and innovation.Preferred Qualifications:
We prefer candidates with a PhD in Speech Communication with experience and demonstrated excellence teaching in the field.Desired Start Date:
