Job Details

The Program Director will be responsible for the structure as well as the daily operation of the program, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula. The Program Director will ensure that the effectiveness of all clinical affiliates/clinical education centers is maintained. The Program Director must have a record of effective teaching, a commitment to diversity, and strong leadership skills.

DUTIES

 

  1. Leads the delivery of learner-centered academic instruction for the program.
  2. Promotes and supports the value of diversity and cultural sensitivity in all aspects of learning and teaching.
  3. Assists in construction, administration, assessment, and revision of the student learning activities and evaluation in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  4. Responsible for the structure and daily operations of the Dental Assistant program including organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, and indications of general effectiveness.
  5. Teaches Dental Assistant courses, as well as interdisciplinary courses within the Department, as appropriate.
  6. Communicates with program personnel on student progression and level of competence in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains prior to graduation.
  7. Participates in the processes associated with recruitment.
  8. Recommends yearly budgetary expenditures, ensuring adequate program resources.
  9. Coordinates activities with clinical agencies, including student rotations, affiliation agreements, evaluations, and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with agency personnel.          
  10. Prepares semester class schedules, and plans, approves, and coordinates equitable faculty schedules and submits them to the Dean for approval.
  11. Responsible for the development of the self-study report for accreditation.
  12. Submits yearly documentation of continuing educational activities sufficient to ensure current knowledge in expertise and to meet state and or national licensure / certification requirements.
  13. Prepares reports each semester, annually, and as needed, to adhere to institutional and accrediting agency requirements.
  14. Organizes bi-annually advisory committee meetings with student representatives, adjunct instructors, affiliated personnel, external stakeholders, and Dean. 
  15. Maintains inventory of classroom equipment, laboratory equipment, models, and computers, in collaboration with Cumberland County Technical Education Center liaison.
  16. Participates with local, state, and national organizations for quality improvement and best practice clinical application activities and accreditation regulations.   
  17. Performs other duties, as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in discipline required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Dental Assisting National Board “Certified Dental Assistant” credential required.
  • Current NJ registered certification, which is in good standing. 
  • Five years effective teaching experience.
  • Current knowledge of CODA accreditation standards 
  • Experience with CODA accreditation site visits
  • Proficient in data collection and reporting to stakeholders and accreditation agencies.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to communicate the vision of the college for all industry affiliates
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail. database) or proven ability to learn these skills
  • Ability to travel, as needed
  • Ability to design and implement successful pedagogical strategies for students exhibiting a broad range of abilities
  • Utilization of innovative teaching methods incorporating technology, including on-line resources 
  • Commitment and ability to utilize instructional strategies to promote student recruitment, retention, and success 
  • Ability to help students adjust to the college academic community 
  • Dedication to improving college course offerings by active participation in curriculum processes, including outcomes assessment 
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners in large and small settings. 
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
