Reporting to the Director of the Troost Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering (Troost ILead), the Managing Director is responsible for the management, oversight, design and implementation of a large-scale multi-faceted Faculty-wide leadership development program that reaches thousands of students and internal and external professionals each year. As a key member of the institute’s senior leadership team, the Managing Director provides strategic leadership for the planning, development, design, delivery, coordination, and administration of ILead’s curricular, numerous co-curricular and corporate training programs, including the development and implementation of appropriate programming practice and procedures.

Managing a team of educators and serving a diverse student population the Managing Director works closely with students, faculty, staff, professional engineers, external clients and the ILead team. The Managing Director oversees and develops educational programs at the curricular, co-curricular level and corporate levels. The Associate Director of ILead exercises full managerial oversight over both; the administrative and programming teams which include five (5) appointed USW staff, casuals, instructors, and external contractors.

The Managing Director is a consultant for the Faculty on leadership training and education, engages internal and external community partners in collaborations, leads and engages in strategic planning and the development of innovative customized programs, serves as pivotal member on committees, and stays abreast of current leadership theory and best practices in post-secondary education. This position actively and directly contributes to the ongoing development and growth of ILead.



Masters Degree in Education or Leadership Studies or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience in post-secondary teaching and curriculum design, program development and delivery, relationship management is required. Significant experience in leading and managing a large and diverse team. Experience in business development, evaluating business opportunities and preparing proposals and negotiating contracts is an asset.


Demonstrated skills in instructional program development, pedagogy and delivery; Strong communication skills including writing, speaking and presenting; Demonstrated commitment to teaching leadership and professional development; Creative curriculum design; Problem solving; Skilled at managing a team, team-building, resolving conflict, event planning and oversight, and providing clear direction; Ability to manage a diverse and challenging work load; Ability to provide feedback to staff; Skill and sensitivity in working with diverse groups of people.


Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to interact effectively with senior management, staff, faculty, students and professionals in a variety of settings; Must be a creative with strong organizational skills; Demonstrated ability to work effectively and inclusively within a diverse community; Demonstrated consensus builder, ability to work collaboratively across difference.
