Job Summary: The Nursing Supervisor will provide administrative direction, supervision, and management of the nursing services to ensure quality patient care and treatment. In addition, the Supervisor will provide treatment to patients within the scope of his/her license assisting physicians and nurse practitioners with patient care.

Additional Department Summary: The Registered Nurse Supervisor, in coordination with a consulting MD, oversees medical services within a self contained residential treatment program for emotionally dysregulated female youth who have been adjudicated delinquent. The program is located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is a 16-bed program that is administered by the Youth Services Institute through a management agreement with the Alabama Department of Youth Services. The Registered Nurse Supervisor is responsible for intake interviews, medication management, assisting with physical examinations, and medical consultation for program youth. In addition, this person will be available to assess youth if minor/moderate injuries are sustained during emergency situations.

The Registered Nurse Supervisor will supervise, assist, and provide direction to Registered Nurses employed by the program. This person will participate as a member of a management team, and provide guidance regarding needed medical services, beneficial educational programs, and the health status of program youth. The Registered Nurse Supervisor will review medical information of program youth and ensure accuracy of file documents, consult with the supervising physician on medical issues and work independently as the primary medical staff onsite. This person will coordinate medical intake and discharge procedures for program youth, and serve as the liaison for referrals that require additional medical care. The Registered Nurse Supervisor will assist in the provision of medically related training programs for staff. This employee will supervise billing of Medicaid and private insurance.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree and a minimum of four (4) years of LPN or RN practical nursing experience; OR Bachelor's degree and a minimum of at two (2) years of LPN or RN practical nursing experience. Experience to include at least one (1) year in a supervisory, work leader or equivalent position.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: At least one year of supervisory/leadership experience that demonstrates excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills. Prior experience as a member of a treatment team. Possess excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills including an ability to develop working alliances among program staff at every level. Knowledge of basic computer skills and experience with an electronic medical record system.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited college/university and at least one year of broad or specialized professional experience. One year of practice, as a registered nurse working in adolescent health care in an outpatient setting, a residential treatment program, or acute care hospital.
