THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA invites applicants to fill a full-time, 3-year renewable contract position, starting 16 August 2022. This position is a non-tenure earning Instructor position, renewable at the discretion of the University based on performance, need, and available funding, to teach in the department and to serve as the Assistant Director of the Alabama Forensic Council.

Minimal qualifications for the position include a completed M.A. degree in Communication Studies by the starting date and evidence of coaching experience in forensics. The preferred candidate will possess an excellent academic record, teaching experience in the field, a valid driver’s license, and successful experience in coaching forensics. Commensurate salary will reflect qualifications and experiences.As a member of the departmental faculty, this position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Communication Studies and offers Forensics (COM 104) each semester, as well as other departmental courses based on expertise, as needed, and assigned. As the Assistant Director of the Alabama Forensic Council, this position reports directly to the Director of the Alabama Forensic Council and is responsible for directly coaching and preparing students to compete at intercollegiate forensic competitions, assisting in the recruitment of graduate assistants and undergraduate team members, and driving students to and from forensic competitions, as assigned. The Assistant Director will also provide service to assist the Director with program administration, such as hosting high school and college tournaments, working closely with the Director of the Alabama Forensic Council to accomplish various administrative duties successfully.
