Position Summary

Status: Non-Exempt

Time Commitment: 40 hours per week

Position Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance Worker will perform landscape and maintenance and grounds improvement work on at university campuses, university residential properties and athletic facilities. The person in this position must have the ability to learn practices of landscape maintenance including experience in irrigation operation, installation, and maintenance.

  • Responsibilities:

  • Supervise other Grounds personal
  • Maintain plants, trees, shrubs, lawns and sports turf, parking lots, and vacant lot.
  • Operate, maintain and repair irrigation systems.
  • Operate and maintain mowers, edgers, trimmers, hedgers, chainsaws and other landscape equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Prepare university grounds, properties and athletic venues for events.
  • Provide training and supervision for student workers in a positive and uplifting manner.
  • Qualifications

    Required

  • Pastoral Reference Letter from your spiritual leader (pastor, priest, minister, etc.). This person should have extensive knowledge of your Christian life and relationship with Jesus Christ. This knowledge should be expressed in the letter.
  • Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to the Christian mission of the University
  • Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license, excellent driving record and personal history.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively the English.
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and in group/team situations. Add

  • Knowledge of the principals and practices of landscape maintenance including the tools, equipment materials and methods used in the maintenance and construction of landscaped areas; Safe work practices; safety precautions for grounds and athletic facilities; and the proper use of fertilizer and chemicals used in grounds maintenance.
  • Experience working in an education setting, and preparation of campus and athletics facilities for events.
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems.
  • A strong desire to work in a grounds keeping/outdoor environment.

    Environmental Conditions:

  • Outdoor working environment subject to extreme changes both hot and cold. Including rainy and windy conditions
  • Frequent dusty, dirty, muddy and wet working conditions
  • Physical Demands:

  • Attendance and punctuality.
  • Mobility and ability to walk, sit, stand, for extended periods. Ability to use hands, fingers, arms and legs to proficiently use and operate tools and equipment required in grounds maintenance. Ability to regularly to reach with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel or crouch. Ability to work around loud mechanical equipment. Ability to speak and hear. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
