Nature of Work:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites applications for an Associate Director of the Center for Advanced Drug Development (CADD), into a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor, in support of our goal to integrate research, education, innovation, and engagement across the department and university. We seek a diverse scholar with training and/or experience in one or more relevant themes related to translational nonclinical research. These relevant themes include (but not limited to) nonclinical drug development, pulmonary inhalation toxicity, acute lung injury, pulmonary fibrosis, cardiac injury assessment, vascular toxicity, advanced nonclinical imaging, and/or general toxicology. Our most pressing needs include thorough understanding of the life cycle of therapeutics, and the utility of small to large animal models in the regulatory approval process. Applicants who bridge multiple disciplines within the department or across campus are preferred.

Successful candidates will establish and maintain active, externally funded research programs to support and conduct scholarly research in their own areas of expertise as well as collaboratively within the Center for Advanced Drug Development. They will contribute to the academic success of post-graduate, graduate and undergraduate students through research project supervision, advising and career mentoring. Examples of Work Performed:

The duties of the individual holding this position will be twofold. First and foremost, the individual is expected to develop a productive and cutting edge, externally funded research program. This responsibility will include keeping abreast of current literature, formulating long- and short-term research goals, designing and performing appropriate experiments to achieve these goals, evaluating laboratory data and protocols, preparing and submitting manuscripts based on research conducted within the lab, and preparing and submitting grant applications to appropriate federal or private agencies to secure funding for the research program. It is important that individual to interact effectively with other members of the scientific and clinical research communities and establish fruitful research collaborations. The individual is expected to present research in all appropriate venues to increase the awareness of research being performed in the lab, and to facilitate collaborative interactions. Second, the individual is expected to participate in service activities within the department, the university and the broader scientific community that contribute to the accomplishment of department and university missions, and that promote the success and welfare of the broader scientific and medical community. This will include teaching and mentoring activities of post-graduate, graduate and undergraduate students, delivering didactic lectures and local/national/international presentations, designing and teaching courses, advising, and other administrative duties related to teaching.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

Assistant Professor: $162,000- $175,534

Associate Professor: $189,848- $205,850

Professor: $193,755- $248,001

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor

    Education: A completed doctorate degree in medicine (MD/DO), veterinary medicine (DVM), and/or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is required in a relevant field of translational research, including pulmonology, cardiology, veterinary medicine, radiology and/or general toxicology.Experience: A clear evidence of relevant (2 years minimum) post-graduate experience (in academia, government or industry) is required in translational research related to drug development, pulmonary and/or cardiac injury, veterinary medicine, radiology and/or general toxicology. Special Skills: Experience in writing and submitting of mentored and/or independent grant applications and publications in peer-reviewed journals is required.
Associate Professor

    Education: A completed doctorate degree in medicine (MD/DO), veterinary medicine (DVM), and/or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is required in a relevant field of translational research, including pulmonology, cardiology, veterinary medicine, radiology and/or general toxicology.Experience: A clear evidence of extensive (5 years minimum) relevant post-graduate experience (in academia, government or industry) is required in translational research related to drug development, pulmonary and/or cardiac injury, veterinary medicine, radiology and/or general toxicology. Special Skills: Experience in writing and submitting of successful independent grants and/or research contract applications and publications in peer-reviewed journals is required.
Professor

    Education: A completed doctorate degree in medicine (MD/DO), veterinary medicine (DVM), and/or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is required in a relevant field of translational research, including pulmonology, cardiology, veterinary medicine, radiology and/or general toxicology.Experience: A clear evidence of national/international reputation in research area of focus, and an extensive (10 years minimum) post-graduate experience (in academia, government or industry) is required in translational research related to drug development, pulmonary and/or cardiac injury, veterinary medicine, radiology and/or general toxicology. Special Skills: Experience in writing/coordinating successful independent and program grants and/or research contract applications and high impact publications in peer-reviewed journals is required.
Conditions of Employment:

Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado

Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check

Preferred Qualifications:

    Advanced degree in Master's of Business Administration (MBA) or Master's of Public Health or above is preferred.Experience with preclinical drug development programs within the government, military and/or industry (pharmaceutical industry)Experience in performing research at academic institutionsExperience in holding formal or informal leadership roles.Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by lead authorship of published research communications and oral presentation at national and international conferences.Capability of functioning as a student mentor with strong organizational and administrative skills.
