Anesthesiologist in Neurocritical Care with Research - Associate/Full Professor

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Dec 16, 2021
Deadline: Dec 16, 2023 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Associate Professor or Full Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification in anesthesiology and neuroanesthesia or status as a candidate in the examination system along with ability to obtain a Pennsylvania license are required. Candidates should have completed a fellowship in neurocritical care prior to the proposed start date.

Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the operating rooms and wards of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) as well as participation in lectures, small groups, workshops, and/or simulation sessions.

Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of clinical anesthesia, with a focus on neuroanesthesia, at HUP and PPMC as well as the provision of neurocritical care and/or general surgical critical care in the intensive care units of HUP, PPMC, and/or Pennsylvania Hospital.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include publishing peer-reviewed publications and presenting your work at scientific meetings and other venues. Securing grants is required on the tenure track and encouraged on the clinician educator track. Both the non-tenure clinician educator track ("clinician scholar") and the tenure track involve a substantial commitment to research, including investigator-initiated and collaborative research. The strongest candidates for this position will have a substantial record of scholarship, including multiple prior peer-reviewed publications, invited lectures, and national or international committee engagement and/or leadership positions.

The University of Pennsylvania hosts the largest neurocritical care fellowship in the United States. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a large, diverse patient population, dividing clinical time between providing care in neuroanesthesia and general anesthesia. This role has the potential to lead to a Director of Neurocritical Care position. Are you interested in this position but are unsure about if it's the right fit? We welcome prospective candidates to visit the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Faculty Career Development website to learn more about the different tracks.

We are an inclusive department seeking candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. Candidates will be asked about prior activities that promote diversity, inclusion, and care equity. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Women and non-binary individuals, those from ethnic and racial minority groups, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
