Scene Shop Supervisor/Stage CarpenterSchool of Theatre Arts

This position coordinates with the Technical Director to ensure that all scenic elements are constructed safely and efficiently. Will supervise and train all students in the 105/106y enrollments, work study students and monitor the condition of all tools and equipment. This is a full time (9 months; August 15-May 15), on-campus position. Generous benefits include health, retirement, and tuition assistance.

Responsibilities:

Supervise the construction of scenery; consults scenic design specifications and plans daily execution to ensure completion by deadline; organizes work order and assigns tasks; instructs, guides and ensures the safety of students; builds items alongside students Maintains scene shop tools and equipment; verifies that all safety measures and practices are working; notifies Technical Director of replacement need; services tools that can be fixed in house; assess tool and theatrical systems conditions at the end of each dayPurchase and transport construction materials; organizes a purchase list for activities; organizes and stores materials as they are delivered to shopAssist Technical Director with construction drawings/theatrical systems; may be called on to draft a portion of the drawings, based on the needs of the production, safely executes rigging and supervises execution of fly systemMaintains workspace; prepares space for evening rehearsals, work calls and/or next day’s work; inventories all equipment, places all tools in their appropriate location, and deep cleans space at the end of seasonRequirements:

Bachelor’s degree in related field requiredMinimum of 3 years work related experience; minimum of one year management experience and advanced stage craft techniques, including rigging, metal working and constructionProficient in computer aided design (CAD), hand drafting practices and USITT drafting standards Physical demands of the job include lifting, carrying, excessive standing/walking; safe operation of carpentry and metal working equipmentOccasionally the normal schedule may need to be adjusted to accommodate evening and weekend hours during times of technical rehearsals and show runs.Valid Driver’s LicensePlease download the application at www.iwu.edu/human-resources/job-openings/. Hourly Rate $19.80 (9 month/year position)

The final candidate will pass a pre-employment background investigation.
