Description:

The Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology and at the University of Tennessee invites applications for a non-tenure track, full-time, 9-month position of Lecturer. The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach core undergraduate classes for majors that could include: BIOL 160, a large introductory course in Cell and Molecular Biology, BIOL 240, general genetics, BCMB 311, advanced cell biology, BCMB 330, mechanisms of development and possibly in other BCMB courses, depending on the needs of the department and the qualifications of the successful applicant. Summer teaching may be an option for additional pay. The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology, providing a first-rate environment for engaging students and colleagues in collaborative research and teaching efforts spanning biochemistry, biophysics, molecular and cellular biology. Qualifications:

Minimal qualifications: 1) a Ph.D. in the area of Human Physiology and Anatomy with significant graduate coursework in these disciplines; 2) teaching experience in biology; and 3) a demonstrated interest in teaching and research and evidence-based best education practices for student success.

Besides these minimal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with the following additional qualifications: 1) experience teaching in large introductory lecture courses in core biology; 2) experience designing and implementing instructional material that are modelled on student-centered learning; and 3) experience supervising and mentoring graduate teaching assistants.

The position is renewable on a yearly basis, with the opportunity for promotion after 5 years.
