Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Academic Programs oversees the day to day College-wide curriculum management and approval process. The position collaborates with Faculty, Department Chairpersons and Deans to ensure curricular actions are reviewed and implemented in compliance with Federal, State, and College policies. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Leads curricular processes and ensures curricular actions are in compliance with Federal, State and College policies and procedures
•Evaluates curricular structures and design; resolves complex curricular issues in coordination with academic departments
•Executes the review of curricular proposals; provides recommendations in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of curriculum
•Collaborates with academic departments and provides expertise and guidance in the development and implementation of new academic programs
•Supervises part-time personnel; trains department personnel, as needed
•Develops and leads curriculum management training and workshops; serves as an expert in curricular structures, rules and procedures
•Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of curriculum in MDConnect Campus Solutions through the 1) creation, tracking and implementation of new programs and courses, 2) maintenance and modifications of existing programs and courses, and 3) data entry of course user fees and term-by-term maintenance to ensure accuracy
•Supports the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs by creating curriculum materials for Academic and College Leadership
•Provides leadership and serves as a resource for MDC committees relating to academic/curricular information
•Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

•Master’s degree in education or related field and three (3) years of work experience in relevant field; or Bachelor’s degree in education or related field and seven (7) years of work experience in relevant field
•All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
•Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
•Leadership skills and abilities to chair and organize faculty and administrative committees
•Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
•Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and College policies and procedures regarding curricular matters
•Knowledge and familiarity with curriculum management technologies, including META and MDConnect Campus Solutions
•Ability to apply rule sets to complex information, using logic, analytical techniques and deductive reasoning
•Ability to define problems using independent judgment and critical thinking, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
•Ability to present information effectively to College-wide Administration, Faculty and Students
•Ability to display initiative, provide creative solutions, and utilize diplomatic skills with minimal supervision
•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret academic standards and assessment data
•Possess high level written and verbal communication skills including grammar, spelling and punctuation
•Possess proficiency in Microsoft Windows and other related computer programs such as curriculum content management systems
•Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
