Summer Instructor- part time (Trio Upward Bound)

Duties:Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides free services designed to improve academic, career, and personal skills to prepare first-generation (neither parent has a four year degree) and low-income high school students to be successful in high school and college. The services are offered during the academic year and the summer. The summer component consists of a six-week summer program held on the campus of Moraine Valley Community College, where the students will take classes and workshops in math, science, language arts, foreign languages, college/career planning and social development that will prepare the students for their upcoming school year, as well as for the SAT and college.
Education/Experience:The Upward Bound summer instructor must have a Bachelor’s degree in a teaching field, at least 3 years secondary or college teaching experience, experience teaching disadvantaged/at-risk youth, knowledge of teaching techniques to address diverse learning styles, and the ability to be energetic, creative and enthusiastic in the classroom.
Qualifications:The Upward Bound summer instructor will be required to deliver basic skills instruction and supplemental coursework. The main responsibilities will include planning, implementing and evaluating curriculum in the assigned class. Other responsibilities will include assisting students with academic and career goal-setting and planning, providing role modeling for students, and sharing expertise/experiences in classroom presentations/discussions. Chaperoning fieldtrips is optional, but not required. Training will be required.

Hours:Science/Biology/Chemistry – MTW – 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Basic Arabic Language – M – 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm or 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm
