The Chief Financial Officer/Assistant Dean of the Law School works in close collaboration with the Dean and other members of the Law School senior management team to establish policies and procedures, formulate the strategic direction of the School, and develop long-range plans aimed at furthering the School's mission of teaching, scholarship, and public service. Incumbent is accountable for the entire Law School's budget comprised of a combination of state funding, professional school fees, extramural funds and sales and service funds, as well as endowment funds. Develops a competitive positioning strategy that considers collaboration with peer law schools and other UC campuses. Serves in a senior advisory capacity in developing a strategy for the recruitment and retention of faculty, facilitating donor cultivation and fund-raising goals, establishing and maintaining research centers and student support programs and directing the on-going development and maintenance of a large and highly complex administrative and financial structure. In collaboration with the Director of Finance, responsible for the preparation, review and oversight of the school's annual and long-term operating budgets, overall accounting operations include gift, contract and grant and self-supporting revenue generating programs. Reports directly to the Dean of the School of Law and serves as a senior member of the Dean's management team. Acts with a large degree of autonomy under broad guidelines from the Dean. Directly supervises the Director of Finance and overseas the leadership and engagement of the Law School's finance team to maximize organizational performance by focusing on organizational strategies, operational performance, employee performance and ensures a positive working environment and successful employee experience. Strong ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with diverse populations. Client services oriented, good listening, critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to prioritize projects, deep work focus when needed to meet deadlines, multitask and delegate projects as appropriate. Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations, skills in conflict management techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service. Excellent project management skills, including the capability of managing capital projects. Ability to evaluate processes to establish and maintain appropriate accountability structures and strong internal control elements. Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution. Demonstrated success in analyzing complex data, problems, situations, practices or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, identify patterns, tendencies, and relationships, formulate logical and objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications and develop creative plans to meet needs. Skill in overseeing the preparation of informational materials and statistics responding to inquiries, surveys, and reporting requirements from sources inside and outside the University, such as the Association of American Law Schools. General knowledge of University academic programs and policy. Demonstrated negotiation skills. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with academic and budget planning, financial management and oversight. Preferred: MBACPAKnowledge and understanding of leadership fundamentals, and ability to plan and organize, and to align performance for success, and continuous improvement. Prioritizes a positive work environment and successful employee experience. Experienced in supervising, managing and motivating team members daily.
