The Stanford in New York Office is seeking a Program Associate (PA) is the key staff member for students' residential life in New York. In addition to managing student life, the Program Associate will assist staff in the Program Office with special events and administrative duties, and will be the student life interface between the office and students in the dorm. The PA lives in the student residence in Brooklyn, NY receiving free board, and helps build a strong, healthy residential learning community, which complements and extends students' classroom and experiential learning.

The PA is expected to positively contribute to a residential environment that enhances student academic progress and success, promote the intellectual and cultural life of the residence, create opportunities for students to explore and clarify their interests, values and attitudes, build inclusive and reflective environments in which differences of background and belief are explored, participate in and help coordinate Program and residential activities, know and explain University and Stanford in New York program policies, and be available to students to encourage student responsibility and accountability.

In this role, you will:
  • Assist program staff in coordination of student arrival, orientation weekend, student move in/out and events.
  • Act as the first contact for student housing communication and student issues.
  • Build and foster community with New York cohort throughout the quarter through informal events, activities, individual student advising, and student support.
  • Remain on-call for students during evenings, weekends, and holidays, except winter break.
  • Communicate weekly program events to students via weekly newsletter and maintain the program Google calendar.
  • Advise students on life in New York, health resources, and other student life related needs.
  • In addition to managing student life at the dorm, Program Associate will work about 24 hours in the Manhattan office, including weekday evening hours, to assist with the following:
    • classroom setup and breakdown for instructors
    • administrative tasks and special projects, including social media support
    • program events (including set up, managing RSVPs, and invites)
    • front desk support
  • Remaining hours are spent on the weekend participating in program events and leading informal activities with students.

    To be successful in this role, you will bring:

    • Associates degree and one year of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

    • Ability to live in the residence in Brooklyn, NY

    • Ability to attend a first-aid course as arranged by the program

    • Ability to accommodate flexible hours during student presence at the residence

    • Ability to complete an on-line Stanford Resident Assistant course in the Spring quarter prior to active assignment at the residence

    • Ability to attend a 2-week Resident Assistant course on the Stanford University campus in California

    • Strong English written and oral communication skills

    • Ability to exercise patience and flexibility when dealing with a wide and diverse group of students, faculty, staff and outside constituents

    • Ability to serve as a role model for responsible behavior and personal integrity

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Strong customer service skills and basic office administration skills.

    • Ability to learn compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

    In addition, preferred requirements include:
    • Prior participation in the Stanford in New York program
    • Minimum of one-year experience with resident assistant support, student and academic services support is desirable
    • Experience working and/or living in New York City

    About the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) and Stanford in New York
