POSITION SUMMARY
Requires practical application of law enforcement education, police procedure development and administration. An adjunct community college instructor is an instructor hired for one semester to teach one or more courses for which he/she is qualified to teach. The adjunct instructor reports to the appropriate Instructional Coordinator and/or Department Chair; provides quality instruction for the assigned courses. The instructor works with full-time faculty in assessing students and following all course guidelines. Willingness to teach at other campus sites is required. Adjunct instructors may submit preferences for locations and loads. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinate teaching materials required for law enforcement education with Department Chair.
2. Develop, coordinate and upgrade curriculum and teaching materials required by state and federal regulations for law enforcement programs.
3. Teach classes in appropriate instructional area.
4. Participate in annual student and chair/coordinator evaluations.
5. Comply with departmental curriculum, grading standards, attendance policies, textbook choices, and assessments, and other established processes.
6. Attend classes regularly; return college reports, credentials, and other requested documentation in a timely manner; effectively communicate with appropriate staff and chair.
7. Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations. Communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials.
8. Commit to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of the college at all times.
9. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate’s degree in the field of instruction.
2. Successful completion of a state-recognized law enforcement academy.
3. 5 years as a full-time municipal police officer, with a combination of education, training and tested experience.
4. Ability to advise students, interpret data and provide analysis on data.
5. Ability to positively interact with a diverse college community, and establish cooperative working relationships.
6. Effective human relation, oral and written communications.
7. Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction.
8. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.

9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
10. Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in the field of instruction or a related field.
2. Experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment.
3. Completion of instructor training coursework at a recognized state or federal institute (i.e the FBI, the Police Training Institute at University of Illinois, the Northwestern Traffic Institute, the Illinois State Police, etc).
4. 10 years as a full-time municipal police officer.

5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
