Job Description Summary

This individual will assist the Holomua Lead in organizing the Holomua program by working with departments on campus and other organizations off-to setup logistics for the 6- day college preparation program. This individual will also assist the Holomua Director and Lead in planning the Holomua budget and schedule, hiring mentors and tutors and working with program fees in Cashnet. This individual is also responsible for introducing BYU-Hawaii to the Holomua students and in sharing experiences as a BYU-Hawaii student.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist by taking a leadership and advising role for a group and work with other groups interdependently on projects, activities, and workshops during the week experience.
  • This person is responsible for taking a leadership role for a group of 10 youth in the HOLOMUA program.
  • Be willing to share educational, social, and spiritual benefits of BYU-Hawaii
  • Help assist and execute all details for the HOLOMUA program (i.e. workshops, activities)
  • Assist with ACT test preparation
  • Work cooperatively with staff and administration throughout the development of the program
  • Attend all training meetings
  • Help communicate to parents and all stakeholders concerning the program details
  • Provide direction and guidance for youth participants

Qualifications and Experience

Preferred

  • Returned missionary
  • Experience in event planning and organization
  • Second-year in college, sophomore-standing, or older
  • Experience in counseling, mentoring youth, and taking a leadership role in small groups

Required

  • Demonstrate leadership abilities and organizational skills
  • Possess excellent management and intrapersonal skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, families, and other stakeholders
  • Excellent time management skills are essential
  • Deal diplomatically with people and problems
  • Possess exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Creative and willing to develop programs and projects
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Holomua Director and Holomua Lead

Students selected for the position will need to do the following:

  • Clearance Form
  • Request time off from any current job for the scheduled 6 week.
  • Keep track of your hours during prep/training week that it does not exceed permitted weekly hours.
