Summary of Position
The Residential Life Manager provides leadership in the residence halls (Hales).
This position assists in monitoring the department budget, goal setting and the implementation of strategies, development of all employees and missionaries, evaluates processes of residential policies, and focuses primarily on developing students in the areas of spiritual, physical, social and intellectual growth and program development within the living and learning community.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field required. Master's degree in a related field preferred; three years of related experience in residential life or related work experience preferred. Must have supervisory and/or management experience.

Skill Set

Knowledge of Residential Life operations and student life preferred.

Knowledge of leadership and student development theories, principles, and practices.

Strong organizational and management skills that include strategic program development, budgeting, basic accounting, staffing, and communications.

High level of technical ability, including Microsoft Office, social media platforms, marketing and graphic design, computer skills, data analysis, knowledge of RMS/Mercury a plus.

Experience in event planning for small and large groups 5-1000 people.

Experience managing complex interpersonal relationships and facilitating conflict management.

Ability to facilitate trainings/classes for groups of 5-100 people.

Ability to be independent and take initiative as well as collaborate and take direction.

Proficiency in professional written and oral communications.

Excellent customer service skills and experience.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work well under pressure.

Team oriented.

Ability to manage and develop students and/or employees/missionaries.

Ability to maintain confidential information and work with individuals on sensitive matters

Major Accountabilities

(55%) Hiring, Training, Programming, Emergency Role, Appeals, Mediation and Maxient Conduct Manager.

Recruits Hale Coordinators, Resident Advisors (RAs) and student workers and ensures that supervision, efficient operations and training programs are provided for the benefit and development of all employees, while maintaining compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, standards and laws; (b) establishes long range planning strategies in representing the Residential Life department; (c) assists the Senior Manager of Residential Life with student housing emergency situations as needed; (d) conducts annual and periodic performance evaluations for employees; (e) works closely with Office of Honor and Title IX office for all aspects related to student conduct issues in the Hales and ensures the timely removal of suspended or dismissed students; (f) assists Coordinators and RAs to oversee cleanliness and maintenance of facilities; (g) assists Assignment Coordinator with Hale assignments; (h) leads behavior intervention assessment for mild to elevated risk (self-harm or harm to others); (i) assists Senior Manager in overseeing communication to residents for large announcements, such as major reconstruction projects in the Hales; (j) member of the appeals committee representing Hale appeals to the Residential Life committee (k) mediates high level conflicts between residents as well as between Residential Life staff; (l) acts as Maxient Conduct Manager for the department, reviews and filters all Residential Life incident reports submitted through Maxient, and refers to appropriate individuals (also responsible for training Residential Life staff on using Maxient); (m) indirectly deals with all concerns and issues for all students living in on campus housing.

(35%) Residential Life, Student Leadership Initiatives, Onity/Assa Abloy Key Card System and Workday/ Time & Labor

(a) Provides approval, assessment and evaluation of Residential Life programs; (b) assesses disruptive behavior cases of BYUH residents and refers them to the appropriate university departments such as the Title IX Office, Office of Honor, Counseling Center, Security, etc. (c) advocates for student concerns and issues and collaborates with appropriate university departments such as the Financial Services, Academic Advising, and Student Employment; (d) develops and oversees residential learning communities to ensure the utilization of best practices in student development and research to create engaging learning environments, developing programs focused on students’ needs and development outside of the classroom; (e) mentors and guides student leaders – coordinators, RAs and students, caring for physical, spiritual and emotional needs; (f) conducts and ensures completion of regulation and compliance requirements, such as fire drills in Hales; (g) manages, maintains and troubleshoots the Onity/Assa Abloy key card system and gives rights and access to all Housing staff employees, VIP guests on campus and students; (h) monitors Hale Coordinator and RA timesheets through Workday and ensures they are in line with time and labor policies; (i) responds to student crisis during office hours and after hours, overseeing management and escalation of the crisis, providing support and care to all the parties involved; (j) creates a safe living and learning environment for all residents and employees enhancing students’ ability to develop spiritually, socially, emotionally and intellectually.

(10%) Budget and Other duties as assigned

(a) Provides fiscal management for approved program budget; (b) performs special projects and other tasks assigned.

License or Certification: U.S. driver's license. Professional certifications related to Student Life will be considered.
