This position sits in the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) and is central to the University of Connecticut system-wide (University). The University of Connecticut includes the main campus at Storrs and four regional campuses (Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury), and UConn Health. This position ensures University compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and related University policies.

The EEO & Search Compliance Specialist provides guidance related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action (AA), and the employment search process. This position also utilizes statistical data for the purposes of planning, publication, program evaluation, and compliance with government regulations. The EEO and Search Compliance Specialist is expected to work at both the Storrs campus and at UConn Health in Farmington.


  • Coordinates all aspects of OIE review and evaluation of the unclassified and classified search and hiring process. Reviews search files for compliance with federal and state regulations and University policies and procedures. Works with hiring managers, employment search administrators, and Human Resources to provide guidance and assistance with the resolution of identified issues.
  • Responds to inquiries from hiring managers, employment search committees and administrators, Human Resources, and members of the University community related to the search process, EEO/AA issues, and departmental procedures and policies. Provides solutions and guidance to include referrals to appropriate offices. Assists with developing standards for consistent guidance and responses based on University and departmental policies, procedures and federal and state regulations. Provides excellent customer service. Employs good judgment in all communications and interactions with OIE colleagues and with the larger University community.
  • Assists with the preparation and updating of federal and state Affirmative Action Plans (AAP) for Storrs and the four regional campuses as well as for UConn Health. Responsible for collecting and organizing pertinent information, drafting, and reviewing narrative reports regarding search activity, compiling, and preparing quantitative charts. Establishes procedures and meets critical deadlines for collecting and updating required information in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Works collaboratively with University departments and external auditors regarding compliance in the employment search process, AAP preparation, workforce diversity goals and initiatives and other related projects.
  • Maintains and updates computerized and non-computerized data files. Produces scheduled reports and updates.
  • Maintains knowledge of current developments in related areas and participates in professional development conferences and workshops. Conducts research regarding substantive and procedural issues related to AA, EEO, diversity, and the employment search process.
  • Performs other functions or special projects which may be ongoing or short-term that require project planning and coordination. Adapts day-to-day work schedule to the requirements of business priorities and urgent special requests.

    • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
    • 3 years of relevant work experience.
    • Strong written communication skills with an emphasis on preparing organized and professional reports and communications for various audiences.
    • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams.
    • Strong professional interpersonal skills.
    • Strong verbal communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
    • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment and successfully manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
