Position Summary:

Prairie State College is seeking candidates to expand our pool of adjunct faculty who are qualified to teach sociology, including Introduction to Sociology, Marriage and the Family, and Gender Studies. Candidates should explore innovative approaches to enhance student learning and provide high quality instruction so that each student may meet course expectations. Successful candidates will be responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning and collaborating with their coordinator, Dean, and colleagues to improve the student learning experience. Candidates must also be able to utilize a variety of technology-based programs related to student instruction.

Specifically, we are looking to fill an Intro. to Sociology course that is set to meet on campus Mondays/Wednesdays from 8:00 am – 9:15 am starting on August 22 and ending on December 15.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Sociology or 18 graduate hours in the disciplineExcellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsCommitment to the mission of the community college
Demonstrated ability in the Prairie State College general education learning outcome areas of Communication, Creative Thinking, Cultural Understanding, Information Literacy, and Problem Solving

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching a variety of sociology coursesTeaching experience at the collegiate levelTeaching experience at the community college levelExperience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgroundsCredentialed to teach in the online format
Graduate work beyond the Master’s
