Job Details

The Educational Studies Department of Illinois Wesleyan University is seeking to fill a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Educational Studies Program, specializing in Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education Certification, beginning in August, 2022. There is a possibility of renewal for an additional year. 

The teacher/scholar assuming the responsibilities of this position will teach six courses a year that are aligned with the Illinois standards for the elementary and secondary licensure, and university writing intensive general education requirements.  The ideal candidate will be conversant with socio-cultural perspectives with regard to educational studies. Expected courses to be taught include child development and assessment, students with dis/abilities, internship, and supervision of student teachers.  Required Qualifications:

  • PhD/EdD in a relevant specialization with appropriate graduate coursework in the second specialization. ABD near completion will be considered.
  • Public school teaching experience
  • Familiarity with Illinois Professional Teaching Standards
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students in a liberal arts setting
  • Demonstrated track record of exemplary teaching in a K-12 setting or at the undergraduate level

  • 3-Minute teaching video on a topic of your choice
  • A transcript of one’s graduate training
  • Three letters of recommendation
