The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications from qualified individuals to join the faculty of the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation (PDI). The appointment will be in the Tenure System. The successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an independent research program using contemporary investigative techniques and will join a departmental faculty of ~30 individuals that include individuals focusing on basic and applied aspects of pathology, immunology, toxicology, virology, oncology, and endocrinology. Teaching is an important component of CVM’s mission to which the applicant is expected to contribute. Successful candidates will participate in the preclinical training of DVM students as well as participate in advising, mentoring, and instruction of graduate students and pathology residents. There are also opportunities to contribute to the diagnostic service in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL), depending on the candidate’s interest and veterinary specialty board certification.

For applicants interested in diagnostics, the MSU CVM is a premier referral center for companion animals and horses as well as livestock, laboratory, zoo, and wildlife species. It has outstanding veterinary medical professionals and facilities, and it offers an excellent environment for professional growth and advancement. The VDL is one of the largest veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the United States and provides full-service laboratory support to the MSU Veterinary Medical Center as well as to clients nationally and internationally. The MSU VDL is state-of-the-art and has a large and well-established residency program in pathology, which provides faculty the opportunity to participate in training the next generation of veterinary diagnostic scientists.

Michigan State University has outstanding college-based and university-wide basic and translational research programs that provide ample opportunity for collaborative research with faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine, with those of the two human medical schools on campus and those in many other basic science departments. Additional opportunities for collaboration exist with investigators at the Applied Immunology Center for Education and Research (AICER), Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering, Precision Health, and a new Center of Excellence in Imaging and Image-Guided Therapies. Core facilities include advanced microscopy, proteomics, statistics, high performance computing, genomics, and flow cytometry to name a few. Such collaborative activities are encouraged at both the departmental and college levels, and support is available for grant writing, locating external funding resources, and processing grant submissions both pre- and post-approval. Internal funding opportunities are also available through endowed research funds. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in graduate education programs at MSU including the Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology (CMIB) and BioMolecular Science (BMS) programs.
