Position Summary:

The clinical director will supervise student clinical experiences associated with the Pennsylvania College of Technology Radiography Program, assuring compliance with established practicum policies and guidelines. In addition, this individual will assist in the development, scheduling, and maintenance of clinical offerings within the Radiography Program. This person will also assist with prospective student inquires and tours, along with advising students.

-37.5 hours per week.

Abilities and Skills:

-Willingness and ability to remain current in the profession and according to ARRT guidelines. (Minimum)
-Knowledge of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Radiography standards.
-Strong leadership and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to set and meet goals and objectives with reasonable time parameters. (Minimum)
-Desire and ability to work closely with students in providing skills and experiences vital to a joint hospital/college radiography program. (Minimum)
-Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty, affiliate hospital staff, and the public. (Minimum)
-Sensitivity to the expectations of students, faculty, staff, and the local community. (Minimum)
-Effective oral and written communication skills. (Minimum)

Education:

-American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registration. (Minimum)
-Baccalaureate Degree in Radiologic Technology or related discipline. (Minimum)
-Maintain current professional knowledge through participating in continuing professional education activities and professional meetings. (Minimum)

Experience:

-Four (4) years of post-certification professional experience in radiography. (Minimum)
-Experience in planning and delivery of instruction. (Minimum)

Responsibilities and Duties :

Essential
-Oversee clinical education experiences and coordinate changes as appropriate.
-Provide advocacy and assistance, as needed, to Clinical Supervisors in consultation with students in situations requiring conflict resolution during student clinical experiences.
-Provide oversight and guidance relating to disciplinary matters in the clinical setting.
-Oversee student supervision process, ensuring that all clinical competencies are met.
-Provide orientation to the clinical education and competency process for new preceptors and clinical supervisors.
-Provide daily direction to clinical supervisors.
-Assure clinical instruction effectiveness at all clinical education sites through regularly scheduled visits each semester.
-Act as liaison between the College and affiliate healthcare facilities.
-Must comply with policies and procedures of clinical site/affiliations where students practice.
-Plan/oversee clinical experiences and rotation schedules in collaboration with clinical supervisors.
-Prepare clinical master calendars, ensuring students’ availability for on-campus assessment and exam preparation activities.
-Conduct a pre-clinical orientation for students.
-Assure that all clinical supervisors conduct midterm and end of term student interviews and review students’ progress with Clinical Supervisors, i.e. Clinical Summative Progress Report forms.
-Provide guidelines and forms to clinical supervisors for evaluations.
-Maintain student performance evaluations and clinical records to verify clinical competence for ARRT.-Assure compliance with policies and procedures per JRCERT Accreditation Guidelines by acquiring data and information from affiliates; i.e., to verify that the clinical educational experiences are diverse and sufficient for student.-Assure student and clinical supervisor compliance with clinical site affiliation agreement, policies, procedures, and on-boarding processes.-Act in clinical supervisor capacity when needed to cover staff absences and as part of routine clinical site visits and assessments, which may include supervision of student exams, reviewing students’ radiographic images, ensuring proper radiation safety procedures are followed, maintaining student performance evaluations and clinical records, etc.
-Assist the Program Director with marketing and recruitment of students in conjunction with School and Admissions.
-Assist with the selection and orientation of students.-Participate in Program Welcome and other program-specific events/activities.
-Participate in Penn College events, such as open house and other recruitment initiatives, graduation, etc.
-In coordination with the Clinical Compliance Specialist, verify that student clinical requirements are met and provide documentation to sites upon request.
-Maintain clinical records needed for accreditation and program evaluations, as per JRCERT Standards.
-Recommend program changes/additions reflective of current practice, i.e.,: evaluations used in clinic, documentation styles, etc.
-Develop/revise instructional assessment tools.
-Assist program director in preparing and updating Radiography Program Manual.
-In coordination with clinical supervisors, assure appropriate radiation safety procedures are followed at all times during the students’ practicum experience per JRCERT.
-Maintain documentation/records on students’ radiation exposure records according to JRCERT Guidelines/NRC Requirements. Provide records and report incidents, as appropriate, to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
-Coordinate and integrate the practicum education phases of the students’ training with classroom and laboratory objectives/activities.
-Provide, as requested, and according to NRC protocol, student radiation exposure histories to employers of former students.
-Assure that staff to student ratios remain in compliance with the rules and guidelines of the JRCERT.
-Provide input to Program Director regarding the evaluations of all casual part-time clinical supervisors and ensure that they are performing their duties according to the JRCERT guidelines.
-Assure that clinical supervisors are performing in compliance with JRCERT’s direct and indirect supervision requirements.
-Assure that established patient care guidelines/ethics are followed.
-May teach up to six (6) credits or equivalent classroom/lab courses per semester in consultation with and approval of the immediate supervisor.
-Maintain current professional knowledge.
-Ensure JRCERT portal is updated as needed.
-Facilitate opportunities to enhance clinical supervisors’ knowledge and skills of teaching and learning processes and students’ supervision.

-Some lifting due to patient positioning.
-Moving and pushing of radiological equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Special Job Features:

-Routine travel between College and clinic sites is necessary within a 100-mile radius.
-Some work hours beyond the normal schedule will be required to include some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the students and the program.
-Finalist will be required to present a sample teaching lesson.
-State Police, Child Line, and FBI fingerprint clearances under the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) required before employment can begin.
-Background check will be required on selected candidate.
