In 2018, The UGA Tifton Campus began a yearlong Centennial celebration with various events to commemorate its 100th anniversary of providing updated research to the community.

Research is done on a wide range of commodities, including cotton, peanuts, vegetables and turf grass, all of which make agriculture the No. 1 industry in Georgia.

In 2004, a teaching program was initiated and it has been growing ever since. College-level instruction on campus is aimed at undergraduate and graduate-degree level study.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Position Summary:

As a member of the variety testing team, this individual will contribute to the testing of both summer and winter row crops and forages. Experience with farm equipment and field research is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be capable of working independently and with minimum supervision to accomplish team goals. Computer software and drone technology implementation is a critical aspect of this position. The ability to work extended hours based on peak seasonal workloads is important. This individual would be expected to assist with all aspects of the program, including trial preparation, planting, data collection, harvest and historical documentation of experiments

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Ability to work as part of a team, but with minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to understand research protocols, use Excel, and learn Genovix trial management software.
  • Ability to safely use trucks, tractors, sprayers, and other farm equipment, pull trailers, calibrate sprayer and granular pesticide applicators, and correctly set up planters for corn, cotton, peanuts and soybeans.·
  • Ability to independently calculate all math that is required for completion of field trials. ·
  • Pesticide Applicator’s License or the ability to obtain one ·
  • Remote Pilot Certificate (for aerial drones) or ability to obtain one

Physical Demands:

Because of the nature of our research, which is 90% field plot work, most of this work involves lifting heavy objects. Working outside in very hot or cold conditions is also common.

Arranges seeds, plants, and maintains and harvests field experiments.

Percentage of time:



Utilizes Genovix software for mapping and data management. Obtains field trial records from REC superintendents or staff for permanent archiving. Operates aerial drone for plant measurements and processes resulting data.
